What Challenges Your Nervous System?
Last weekend, Paul and I had a 7-hour drive home from visiting his family, and one leg of the journey, through Kentucky, felt particularly turbulent for me. I literally had an emotional meltdown after an hour of driving through that area, which had lots of stoplights, and traffic pulling out of parking lots onto the highway, and weird-feeling energy.
As you probably already know, I’m very sensitive. Like most HSPs (highly sensitive people), I have a hard time with strong smells, loud noises, intense movies and big crowds.
These things really challenge my nervous system, and so does the energy of some physical places, including that part of Kentucky … and hospitals … and big airports.
In the case of the drive home, the kindest thing for my nervous system was to stop and check into a hotel. Paul and I rested, ate a leisurely dinner, got a pretty decent night’s sleep, and then resumed the journey the next day, feeling WAY better. In the future, we’ll explore alternate routes, too, since surely there must be another way to get from here to there.
Today, as I gently held the question of what to share on the blog this week, the Angels pointed me toward sharing this with you because they want us to notice what challenges our nervous system ... and then Be Love for ourselves.
Being Love for Yourself, First
There’s a whole section in our book that gently reminds us to Be Love for ourselves, first, before we do or say another thing.
So, of course, I know this stuff mentally. And sometimes I even remember to do it! 😆
But … my first inclination on the drive home was to push through. I literally was apologizing to Paul for not being able to drive any further. 😳
The Angels are encouraging me to share this with you because it’s easy to slip into old habits. It’s easy to make ourselves wrong for being super sensitive. It’s easy to beat ourselves up. It’s easy … NOT because it’s “right” to do any of those things, but because we have years (perhaps even decades or millennia) of experience doing them!
And … now … we get to practice being gentle with ourselves. (That’s a chapter in the book, too!)
We get to practice noticing when our nervous system is feeling challenged, and then tuning into our Divine guidance: Angels, is there something for me to do or say right now?
The Angels will guide us to the Divinely perfect way to soothe our nervous system … or get out of the current situation … or whatever is most supportive for us in that moment.
That’s how much the Angels Love us. And that’s how practical our Divine guidance truly is.
