Give Me a Sign

I had to share one of my all-time favorite movie scenes. It’s from Bruce Almighty, starring Jim Carrey, and he’s begging God to send him a sign.

I’m sure all of us can relate to that request.

And … I’m pretty sure most of us can relate to his character’s total oblivion when he receives not just one flashing sign, but a whole truckload of signs!

So, the question is:

How do we see the signs when they show up, instead of doing “the Bruce Almighty thing”?

Step 1: Become Receptive

The Angels are always bringing us signs. Always. And they say that Step 1 in spotting those signs is becoming receptive.

They say this because, often, when we ask for guidance around something, we’re acutely aware that we don’t have that thing. For instance, we might be asking for guidance around how to have a happy child, or a healthy body, or a wonderful relationship. Or we might simply be asking for a sign that the Angels and the Divine are listening.

The thing is: When we’re focused on not having something, it’s very difficult to see that thing, even when it’s right in front of us. In other words, we act just like Jim Carrey’s character.

To become receptive, we have to get out of the space of “not having it.” And the easiest way to do that is to delegate whatever “it” is to the Angels, using the Angel Delegation Statement: Thank you, Angels, for taking care of ___.

For instance, we might say, Thank you, Angels, for taking care of my child.

Or: Thank you, Angels, for taking care of my health.

Or: Thank you, Angels, for bringing me clear and obvious guidance.

The important thing, when we delegate to the Angels, is to feel a little relief … or perhaps we feel a little lighter … or maybe the world around us seems a little brighter. That’s how we know that we’ve shifted our energy state.

So, if you delegate to the Angels and you don’t experience a shift, play around with the wording until you do. Often, it helps to get “more general.” For instance:

  • if you said something very specific like: Thank you, Angels, for taking care of this excruciating back pain;

  • try saying something much more general like: Thank you, Angels, for taking care of my body. Or Thank you, Angels, for taking care of me.

The more general you go, the easier it is to feel some relief. And relief is a sure sign that you’re now in a more receptive state.

Step 2: Become Present

Step 2 for spotting the signs is coming back to the moment.

Almost always, when we’re asking for a sign, we’re either worried about something in the future or concerned about something from the past. So … we’re not in the present.

Coming back to this moment can be as simple as noticing a breeze on your skin, or the sound of someone typing, or the smell of coffee. When you engage your physical senses, you instantly become present.

Step 3: Look Around

The Angels will know, instantly, that you’re available. And so there’s an extremely high likelihood that they will bring you a sign right away, while they’ve got your attention.

The Angels might use someone near you as a messenger, delivering your guidance through their conversation. Or your sign might be on a T-shirt someone is wearing, or a mug they’re holding. Your sign might appear via the lyrics to a song that’s playing, or on a billboard you’re driving past, or via the shape of a cloud up in the sky.

Your “job” is simply to look around, trusting that your sign is present … or it will be any moment now.

And it will be … because the Angels are always bringing you signs!
